2020 was definitely a dumpster-fire of a year (thanks COVID-19!), but we made it through it! I don’t want to spend anymore time dwelling on how “bad” 2020 was though—I’m ready to move on to bigger and better things in 2021! I hope you enjoy this quick post; I’ll be wrapping up my 2020, and sharing some of my plans for 2021!
Highlights of 2020:
2020 actually had a lot of bright spots in it, and I wanted to make sure to highlight those! In 2020 I:
- Made it another year around the sun (I turned 25)
- Used my voice to stand up for black lives and to share my unique experience as a black woman
- Registered my small business as an LLC and finally put in the work to take it seriously
- Finished the didactic portion of physical therapy school and received my white coat
- Figured out what I want my brand to represent, and shared my vision with y’all
- Hit 10k on Instagram
- Celebrated Jon and I’s 5 year anniversary (and we got to pause our LDR for ~4 months!)
- Began my clinical rotations (and my 3rd and final year of physical therapy school)
- Recovered from COVID-19
- Visited Denver, CO for the first time to attend a physical therapy conference (APTA CSM)
- Partnered with some awesome brands/companies
Word of the Year
Instead of creating resolutions for 2021 (I’m kinda over that at this point in my life, I never really keep up with them anyway), I am instead choosing a word that will guide, encourage, and motivate me throughout the year! For 2021, my word of the year is INTENTION: I want to be intentional every day, and focus on being in the moment instead of looking forward to the “next big thing”. I so often forget to enjoy the now, and I don’t want that to continue into this new year. Here’s to living EVERY day to the fullest, and cultivating a life I love and am proud of! A few ways I plan on being INTENTIONAL in 2021:
- Reading for pleasure
- Planning content in advance
- Starting the morning with a solid routine
- Creating tangible goals for my blog
- Prioritizing self-care
- Journaling daily
- Spending less time mindlessly scrolling
Business Goals
Last January I declared 2020 as the year that I would start taking my blog SERIOUSLY and treating it like the BUSINESS that it is. I began meticulously tracking my income, expenses, and brand partnerships back in May, so I had solid data to refer to when creating my annual goals about a week ago! Up until this point, my goals were pretty vague (i.e. “be more present on Instagram and on my blog” and “post often”). For 2021, I made sure to take the time to really reflect on the entire year, and create goals for multiple facets of my business! I set specific goals for my:
- Income (monthly and annually)
- Email list (subscribers, monthly newsletter)
- Instagram growth (engagement, audience)
- Blog readership (monthly views)
- Posting habits/routine (for all social media platforms)
- Learning (SEO, Pinterest, branding)
I am looking forward to the growth and opportunities that 2021 will bring, and I am excited to have YOU along for the ride! Thanks for being here friend 🙂
